Alternative Spring Break Weekend 2014 at Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Friday, March 14 at 5:30 p.m. - Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m.
     Make Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) your weekend destination this spring for a unique spring break experience! This weekend features service projects supporting the trails, habitat restoration, and recreational programs at CVNP; special presentations by guest speakers on careers in national parks; guided hikes; campfire and recreational activities; and the opportunity to meet new people. Lodging and meals provided at the Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Education Center.

     The 20th Annual Akron Home & Flower Show is Friday through Sunday, Feb 28- Mar 2, 2014 at the John S. Knight Center near the University of Akron.  We need 200 volunteers over the weekend at two hour shifts each to help with a variety of tasks, including greeting visitors, running the coat check area, stuffing show bags, assisting in the show office and taking short surveys with guests.

Volunteers needed Dark Alley Paranormal & Anna Dean Farm Historical Society event

Dark Alley Paranormal & Anna Dean Farm Historical Society:
The Anna Dean Farm Paracon is holding a daytime event at the Anna Dean Farm in Barberton, Ohio and we are in need of volunteers for our speakers. Volunteers would simply act as audience fill in for empty seats and very light event setup/tear-down depending on time slot. Will work with volunteer availability, no set amount of hours required.
Co-host is Alpha Sigma Phi alumnus and welcomes all Greek and non-Greek students. 

All proceeds of the event goes to National MS Society, if any students are interested in evening activity, please let us know and we will offer a group discount rate, but volunteers are only needed for the daytime.

Help with Light the Night Walk

The Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will take place on Sunday, September 22 in The University of Akron Field House

75 volunteers to staff areas ranging from setup/cleanup to passing out t-shirts and filling balloons with helium. Times vary based on task assigned. 

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer.

Long-Term Service Opportunity in Michigan


Covenant House Michigan (Detroit, Michigan) is looking for university students who show interest in a long-term service project. It you fit that description, Covenant House Michigan would like to invite you to join the House of Hope Volunteer program and work to support homeless youth ages 18-22. The program offers students an opportunity to live on our campus from 3 months to 2 years while working in our program.

Volunteer for the Akron Heart Walk!

The 2013 Akron Heart Walk has numerous volunteer opportunities available! The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. These diseases, the Nation's No.1 and No.4 killers, claim more than 813,804 American lives a year. 

Volunteer on Friday, 10/18 or Saturday 10/19 at the UA Field House

Groups of 5-20 volunteers are needed both days during many shifts. Tasks include set-up, loading/unloading, greeting, distributing at the finish line, working the family fitness area, distributing snacks and water, delivering food, assisting with photography, and clean up/take down.

Circles, an anti-poverty program of Bridges Out of Poverty Summit County Collaborative, is seeking a donation of a meal to feed approximately 70 individuals.  Circles community meals are held weekly on Wednesdays.  Space is available for meal preparation on site, or food can be brought in from an outside source (some restaurants have donated meals in the past). This meal donation will eliminate one of the barriers that our participants and their families face daily: having a quality meal.

Hospice of the Western Reserve Needs Ongoing Volunteers!

Hospice of the Western Reserve is looking for 20 ongoing hospice volunteers throughout Summit, Portage, and Medina counties

Hospice of the Western Reserve is recruiting new volunteers for a variety of volunteer opportunities which range from visiting patients in their homes, nursing homes, or assisted living facilities to helping get the word out about hospice care and volunteer opportunities in the community and many things in between. Volunteers with patient contact need 20 hours of education while volunteers not seeing patients only need 4 hours. All volunteers receive TB testing and a criminal background check. 11th Running of the Akron Marathon

Volunteers are needed for the 11th running of the Akron Marathon on Saturday, September 28, 2013.  Each year since 2003 the Akron Marathon has hosted an international, world-class marathon, half marathon and team relay race the last Saturday in September.  We have made it our mission to promote health and fitness and bring national attention to the greater Akron area.  Volunteers are essential to the success of our event and are vital in providing a safe, organized and fun race.  As volunteers for the Akron Marathon, you will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to your community, to meet new people and to share your skills and talents.  The truth is that it’s the volunteers who make the race such a wonderful experience for the runners!

We are looking for groups, as well as individuals, to volunteer on either Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Health & Fitness Expo, or on race day, Saturday, September 28, 2013.  Opportunities to volunteer on race day include:  course support, finish line and Kids Fun Run.  We will also need three to four groups to direct runners along key points of our course.  If your group is interested in working together at these key points, please contact  aantonucci@akronmarathon.org.  To register to volunteer, please visit www.akronmarathon.org and visit the Volunteer page under the Community tab.  Volunteer group leaders can also contact the marathon office at 330-434-2786.

Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank needs you to GO ORANGE!

 unite to urge individuals to take action in 
their communities.
GO ORANGE for hunger on September 5 and show

OPERATION ORANGE at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank 
on September 29 and 30. 
This 24-hour volunteer-a-thon will be filled with
 fun and entertainment, all the while helping those in need,

continue through the night and day ending on 
Monday, September 30 at 4pm.

The National Hamburger Festival is August 17 & 18, 2013.
