Reach Out and Read at Akron Children's Hospital

Reach Out and Read at Akron Children's Hospital is a program that focuses on early literacy in children ages 6 months to 5 years.

In the program, free brand-new books are provided to the children at their wellness visits. A gently-used book bin is in all of our primary care physician's waiting rooms; these books are free to any child who wishes to take them home. Many of the children come from low-income families, who do not know the importance of reading to their child, and/or who cannot provide their child books. The hope is that children from all economic backgrounds will develop a love for reading by the time they enter school. This group is always looking for book donations or volunteers to read to the children in the waiting rooms.

This is an on-going opportunity, Reach out and Read is looking for volunteers to read more than once if possible any weekday and at any of their 20 locations. There is an application process, please email amiles@chmca.org for further information.
