Become a volunteer reader! Volunteer readers are needed in
several Akron Children's Hospital Pediatrics (ACHP) offices located throughout
Northeastern, Ohio and the Locust Pediatric Care Group office at the hospital,
to read to children in the waiting room . No minimum number of hours is
required to volunteer. You can read once a month or every day!
Having volunteers
read aloud in the waiting rooms makes the experience of going to the doctor
pleasant for children and parents. By reading to children, volunteers model
book-sharing techniques for parents and show them by example that reading aloud
is an enjoyable experience for the family. And importantly, children who are
introduced to books at an early age are better prepared for success in
learning.
